any suggestions? what has worked for everyone else?
I've tried this, found on friend heather's blog
While in your post, click on "edit Html". Then look for this set of code...it's the code for the picture you just uploaded.BUT it doesn't work for me! my code looks a little different. so I just tried changing the pixel size withing the HTML code, but it ends up making the image look icky.
Now delete this section of code--everything circled above. After deleting the indicated code, your html for your picture should look like this:
Now it's time to change the size of your photo. You can choose from s400, s576 or s640 depending on the look you want and the parameters of your blog. Try a few on for size and see what works best for you. See below picture for the section of code you'll want to change during this final step.
All in all this should take you about 30 seconds.

I had the same problem with my blog while we were planning my new layout a while ago. What worked for us was getting separate server space and publishing images through it. We got ours at http://www.thiswebhost.com/, which has been really reliable so far and has great prices!
If you use blogger to store your images they have a resize imposed upon them for use in the layout. To fix this, upload your photos to your server through ftp, copy the URL and paste it into the URL section of the Image Upload Box on blogger. They won't be resized, so make sure you upload photographs at the size you want them to appear.

Unfortunately, that method doesn't work with every Blogger template. I've solved the problem by taking the Blogger photo upload button out of the process.
I have an action within Photoshop that resizes mine to the size I want (800 px on the longest side), and when I'm done editing, I run the action. Then, I upload the pictures to my Flickr page and I use their HTML code to place my picture in the blog post. If you click on "All Sizes" above the Flickr photo, you'll get a block of HTML code that you can copy and paste directly into the HTML editing tab on Blogger. Then you can click on Compose if you want to center the photo. This method also makes it so I can place the photo exactly where I want it instead of uploading a bunch of pics through Blogger and then cutting and pasting the code to get them in the right place.

It's because blogger resizes the photo that actually shows up in your post. Then that photo is a link to the full resolution file that you uploaded. So, you need to replace the url in the "src" part, with the url after the "< a" part. Then just move the sizing code out of the "style" section and code it like this: width="400px" (minus the brackets). Also, you only need to define the width. The height will default to whatever the aspect ratio of the original file is. Drop me an email if you need further clarification.

I used to use Flickr, but I found it unreliable. Most of the time the images didn't load!
I recently started using Picasa since I upload my photos to Picasa anyway to add them to my blog. So...
Upload your photos to an album.
Click the photo you want to add to your blog. On the right hand side there is a link that says "Link to this photo" click it.
A menu will drop down with lots of goodies. From there on the size select large 800px, click "Hide Album Link" and copy the HTML under "Embed Link"
Then just paste that in when you are composing a new blog. Make sure you are under the "HTML" tab.

dear Rachael, Im on a Mac and this works for me - you can only size down with this method ie the uploaded image needs to be larger than what you want it ti be in your post.
In the create post section,
Right click on the upper right corner of the image when its uploaded ( not psted yet) and you can drag it diagonally ( holding the mouse down) until you size it to the size you want

felicity- your way may be the easiest yet! It totally worked!!! but my image looks pixelated once I drag to resize (not crystal clear like when you click on it)...I need to mess around uploading the original file size larger and see if that helps. you're awesome!!!!

As it happens, I've been working on setting up a new blog (not public yet) for my artwork and have been having the same ideas about my images. I tried the pixel size thing first =) but then found what you've described in this post. It worked for me, but I also want to set up some sort of gallery with thumbnails, so I kept searching (I'm still searching) and so far I've found these...

Maybe these aren't the way you want to go with your blog, but I just thought I'd share. If you'd like, I can take a look at your code (you said it looks a bit different) and see if I can figure something out. Anyway, it's always nice to meet a new artistic person! By the way, what kind of camera/lens do you use?
